No. 001 - Simple Addition [Written]

[It's about time to give this device a go. In neat, legible writing is simply the following:]

5 + 5 + 5 = 550

It appears I have my arithmetic out of sorts. However, it would be a shame to scrap the equation entirely. Can you help me correct it by adding a single straight line?

[Luke ought to stop wearing shorts in the terrible weather.]

Oh, um...it's a flat, actually. [That he shares with two actual immortal guys. They're quite the roommates.] I'm not sure we can go slowly out in this weather, won't you get all wet too?

Oh, I'm not too concerned about that.

[He looks over the map once more and remembers that All Passions is a clothing store. More importantly, it's right next door.] On the other hand, simply procuring an extra change of clothes is a tempting idea as well.

We could do that! And, um, at least one of us still needs a good raincoat.

[Even if raincoat has another word in British English.]

[The image of using a Mac laptop as an umbrella comes to mind.]

Ha, yes, I suppose at least one of us does. If I had known I'd be making a trip, I would've packed more consciously. Or packed at all, for that matter.

[He misses his trunk already.]

Well of course you didn't know, Professor. [Luke's trunk suitcase thing isn't here either.] But you found your clothes all right, didn't you? I bet the rest will be there too.

[Trying to cheer up an outwardly cheerful pseudofather. He's an expert.]

[He will need all of the mental support he needs, as might be expected of one suddenly bereft of saving rites. What if his DS runs out of batteries...?]

You may be right at that. Now then, let's get a move on. I daresay the librarians will appreciate having their carpet nice and dry again.

[Oh dear. Did he ruin the carpet? Luke looks at his trail of dripping and makes a face. Oops.]

You're probably right.

[reminded]

[He won't tell if you won't. He stands and puts on his jacket, carefully tucking in his wings, before making to leave. He's interested in seeing more of the village than its library, even if everything is all covered in icy rain.]

[To his credit, Luke remembers his umbrella on the way out, popping it open over his head. It doesn't do much good, so at least they don't have far to go.

The way he's half-tugging on Layton's arm toward the clothing store doesn't help either.]
