[There sure is a lot of excitement this morning. After getting a vague grip on the situation by talking to some of the wingless newcomers, Layton decides to take a stroll around the village, trunk in hand, and observe. Something very unusual is happening, and there's no point in missing it by staying indoors.

Occasionally, he takes a seat on a bench or at a table and scribbles notes into his journal. Or puzzles into his puzzle index. Because no matter how much hubbub there is, you can never stop the puzzles.]

[Hopefully the professor doesn't mind that his puzzling is going to get interrupted by a spikey man who has no idea where he is. The professor looks nice enough! He's probably not going to bite his head off is he just waltzes on over to ask questions!!]

[He looks up from an overly elaborate drawing of a bunch of overlapping pipes and straightens.]

Certainly. This is Luceti.

[Could he explain more than that? Sure he could. But he doesn't.]

None of us can be sure, but this world isn't like any Earth I know. My apologies, but I suspect you're a very long way from home.

[No, Layton, never stop puzzling! Anyway, a certain friend of yours (who is an adult and post-Miracle Mask) is just strolling through the village. He's pretty fascinated with it, though, despite being randomly dropped in it. Guess who recognized your top hat?] Hershel? Hershel, is that you?

[Now, how could he ever forget that voice? He closes his index and stands, hand on the brim of his hat.]

[Archaeology broooooo you're here, wanna go exploring together.] Aha! It is you. Well, I feel a bit more relaxed now. [Onto more important matters.] You don't seem that distressed, though. Know where we are?

[suddenly there is a nose resting on the other side of the table and two curious eyes above it

Oh, hello.

[Layton smiles at his audience and leans back from his puzzle index, where he was jotting down a puzzle inspired by a strange-looking tree in the woods. It's multiple choice, even.]

Can I help you?

[He's come a long way from being self-conscious about talking to animals.]

Ammy whuffs at him, lifting her head a little, tail thumping. What is that he's got there?]

[Visibility is good today— Layton will be able to see the reflections off the windows of nearby shops today. Most of the time, it's just people wandering around, heading into the shops ("What?" tends to be the catchphrase of the day), the usual.

But sometimes, just sometimes, he might catch sight of Familiar Faces from the other side of the window...]

[After seeing not one, but two other acquaintances today, Layton has been keeping a sharper eye out for familiar faces in the crowd. It isn't realistic for him to expect any single person out of so many in his life to make an appearance. He knows that. But there's still a certain manner of dress, a certain tone of voice, a certain shade of hair that makes him turn just to be sure.

He's absently scanning the storefronts when he moves past a troublesome spot of glare on one window, forcing him to look away and blink the spots out of his eyes. When he turns his gaze back and looks through the window, he freezes. Maybe even stares.]

[Too far away, too soft.

Her head darts inquisitively to the left, as if having heard something (something not him) and she moves. To the other direction, mind you, away from him.

Something seems to have caught her attention.]

[It's okay. Dave's not paying much attention to the looks Layton's sending his way anyway. He's just kinda staring off into the distance behind his too cool shades, still talking because. Well, because nothing. He just is.]

Yeah, see, I got here and everyone was suddenly running around with wings. Except me. So what the hell. Except not really, because I'm not dead. That's kind of a requirement for angel wings or whatever, right. But I don't know, we've never stopped by a dream bubble full of random winged assholes before. Wait. No, we have. Not like this though. That's the difference. Get it? So I guess what I'm trying to say is even though this place is obviously different, how come I still don't see a single glass of AJ anywhere.

[ Not recognizing him by face, Marita takes her own seat at the table not that far from him. The hustle and bustle reminds her of what she has been told how the 'abductions' were performed, but this time to an even more full effect. Wingless and winged, she's not sure what the connection holds.

Not far from her, she notices the observer with wings — scribbling important notes down. ]

Have you figured out any sort of connection?

[Layton looks up from his writing, notes this woman's wings, and tips his hat in greeting.]

A connection between what, madam?

Between us and them. [ Her gaze follows to the wingless. ] Or any reason as to why they have shown up.

[oh hey Layton have a half-metal, ragged-looking rabbity-thing. He's walking to the bakery, not really caring about the wind, but he stops when he spots Layton. Writing something outside in this weather? What a strange guy. Very dedicated to his puzzles.]

[People are very interested in his puzzles today. He's not complaining, though. To his credit, Layton's only reaction to Tattoi's odd appearance is a blink or two.]

Me? Why, I'm recording a puzzle. I was reminded of one when I saw that barrel over there.

[And to be sure, there is a barrel over there. There are a number of diagrams and and simple illustrations drawn on the open pages of his puzzle index, but the one he's in the process of recording only seems to be a word problem.]

[Tattoi thinks you're very strange. At least you're more accepting of his appearance than half of the people here, though it's really a small comfort. Since he's here and there's not much else to do...]

[Yep, not very verbose. Oh well. At least Layton can briefly enrich this stranger's life with knowledge.]

[ In the midst of this insanity, the puzzling professor looks like an adult who might know what's going on? Pardon the interruption, but this freezing redhead approaches. Unfortunately, he is still in Luceti's default cotton pants. ]

[Layton looks up from his scribblings and is surprised to see a new feather addressing him. With the arrival of all these wingless newcomers, he thought the new feathers were done coming in.]

My word. Have you just arrived, young man?

[ Though he isn't usually so bouncy and animated, Otonashi shifts from foot to foot and rubs his arms for warmth. On top of it all, his teeth are chattering. ]
