[It's about time to give this device a go. In neat, legible writing is simply the following:]

5 + 5 + 5 = 550

It appears I have my arithmetic out of sorts. However, it would be a shame to scrap the equation entirely. Can you help me correct it by adding a single straight line?

I'm just curious! I don't think I've ever seen anyone pose a question like this before. It just kind of struck me as a thing you'd have to have done more than once before.

Forgive me; they're quite popular around London [and everywhere else for that matter] so the concept is strange, to say the least. To answer your question, I am something of a puzzle enthusiast, so I'm quite familiar with them.

Splendid! It seems I couldn't fool you. Sometimes, it is all too tempting to cling to the numbers we are given without properly contextualizing them first.

You certainly may. As a matter of fact, there is another equation of mine that I made a mess of somewhere along the way:

8 + 8 = 91

I've grown rather fond of it. Unfortunately, the laws of mathematics demand that the equation be balanced. What can I do to balance the equation without altering it at all?
